Johns Hopkins Goalie Kathleen Garvey, LGR Episode 136

Listen on Apple Podcast

Current Johns Hopkins women’s lacrosse goalie Kat Garvey first started playing goalie in the 3rd grade when her entire soccer team from Maitland, FL decided they were going to play lacrosse for some off-season training.

She was the goalie on the soccer team so why not be the goalie on the lacrosse team?

She was already willing to face balls flying at her face. She already knew the mental battle of being scored on. She already knew how to position herself in the goal to be most likely to make the save. All important elements of being a great goalie (lacrosse & soccer).

By the time she reached 5th grade her coach had a brother who played goalie at Maryland and he showed her the ropes. She also spent a lot of time in middle school looking at tips and drills on a little site called LaxGoalieRat.com 😁  And now here she is, years later, on the Lax Goalie Rat podcast – circle of life.

Kat joins the podcast this week to discuss her story of starting out in the 3rd grade all the way to arriving at Johns Hopkins, earning the starting role and becoming a leader of her team. She also shares her challenges and hiccups along the way.

Great episode with the Florida native and current grad student at Johns Hopkins, Kat Garvey aka KeeperKat.
