Talking Shop with BU Terrier Alum Goalie Tommy Connelly – LGR Episode 53

Tommy Connelly and I have known each for awhile now. He’s actually written several posts for the Lax Goalie Rat blog including:

He also helped me break down a lot of film over the years so it was a pleasure to finally get him on the podcast to talk shop for an hour.

Another goalie inspired by the great Tillman Johnson. Except Tommy was not inspired by him, he was coached by Tillman! He shares that experience!

As a film rat, he’s studied more goalies and watched more film than just about anyone so he’s really refined his eye to helping goalies.

He’s currently coaching and training lacrosse goalies so he shares his tips on how to make goalies better.

He played is college ball at Boston University where backed up Christian Carson Banister – who is currently in the MLL. You’ll want to listen to this segment because he shares some great tips on dealing with being the backup goaltender.

Tommy unfortunately had to battle through several injuries in his goalie career so you’ll get to listen on how he handled that entire process.

Awesome interview with a great guy!

My first TBT to BU Senior Day 2018! This picture is awesome for a few reasons: 1. We won the game and secured a spot in the Patriot league tournament after a very challenging season (buzzer beater goal to put us ahead courtesy of @rhilburn33) 2. The game epitomized the hard work it takes to actually win a game! Every day 50 or so guys woke up early to either workout, practice, or go to class with the ultimate goal of contributing to a team with a winning culture. It wasn’t and isn’t your typical 9-5. Not every day was awesome, but even the days that weren’t helped us get to days like the one in this picture. It doesn’t always turn out this way, after all someone’s got to win, and someone’s got to lose, but the work along the way is what defines us. —————————————————————— The guy to my right was another 4-year goalie at BU, and it was always awesome to compete with him. Every day we pushed each other to work harder, while still maintaining our standing as the funniest guys on the field (and in the weight-room, and locker room). To all the young goalies out there, try and find this in a training partner. It doesn’t have to be another goalie, just another athlete to force you to work harder than you typically would. ——————————————————————- P.S. in the final two minutes of this game we had two guys make plays that won us the game, one was a senior captain who scored the final two goals (only 30~ seconds apart) and the other was a freshman midfielder who stripped an opposing player to get us a do or die ball back. The freshman had less than a season of college lacrosse under his belt. Anyone and everyone can make a difference in these types of games. Whether it’s during it, or the during the 6 days of preparation and rehabilitation we have between since the last one, every second matters. ———————————————————————- #tbt #lacrosse #compete #weightroom #athlete #collegelacrosse #lax

Being a goalie parent is harder than playing the position.
