Montreat College Coach and Former Goalie Blake Lattimore on the Importance of Footwork – LGR Episode 175

This Episode Is Brought To You By:

On today’s Lax Goalie Rat Podcast episode, I sit down to chat with Blake Lattimore.

Lattimore is a former goalie at Montreat College and NAIA Program in North Carolina.

The native of Boiling Springs, SC has a unique story in that he didn’t start playing lacrosse until his freshman year of high school.

After not making the baseball team during his freshman year Lattimore chose to join some of his friends and hope in the cage for the new lacrosse program at his school and quickly found his love for the game.

Prior to hoping in the cage, Blake was a catcher in baseball and he talks about how the hand-eye coordination he learned from being a catcher translated to helping him be naturally gifted at tracking the ball as a lacrosse goalie.

Lattimore worked hard on crafting his game spending countless hours developing his footwork that would eventually help him land an offer at DII program Emmanuel College in Georgia.

Blake spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Lions before a serious nerve injury in his leg caused him to be sidelined during his sophomore year.

During that time Lattimore began to realize that he wanted to be closer and entered the transfer portal after a friend had pitched him the idea of joining the Cavaliers at Montreat.

After a visit to the campus, Blake quickly realized that Montreat would be his new home and would go on to finish his college career as a Cavalier.

Since graduating in 2021, Lattimore now serves as an Assistant Coach with his alma maters women’s program focusing on helping develop the goalies.

Blake joins the show today to talk about the difference between catchers and lacrosse goalies, lacrosse in South Carolina, the importance of footwork, and much more!
