On today’s episode of the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast, I am thrilled to have NLL goalie Deacan Knott from the Philadelphia Wings join me.
Deacan recently concluded an exceptional summer, securing a Minto Cup, the Canadian National U22 Box Lacrosse Championship, with the Burlington Blaze.
The Blaze triumphed over the Coquitlam Adanacs in a thrilling best-of-three series, claiming one of Box Lacrosse’s most coveted trophies.
Throughout the tournament, Deacan consistently held opponents to fewer than 10 goals per game, boasting an impressive 86% save percentage. In four out of the five games, he made 40+ saves, including two remarkable 50+ save performances, earning him Goalie of the Tournament honors.
Before their Minto Cup triumph, the Blaze faced the undefeated Orangeville Northmen in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) finals. Despite the Northmen’s perfect 27-0 record leading up to the finals, the Blaze emerged victorious in six games of a best-of-seven series, securing the OJLL title and a spot in the Minto Cup.
Knott’s standout moment came in Game 6 of the OJLL finals, where he delivered a stellar 63-save performance, sealing the series and showcasing his exceptional skills.

Known for his athletic style and jaw-dropping saves, Knott honed his skills playing minor lacrosse in Peterborough, a renowned lacrosse hotbed. He later played junior lacrosse with his hometown team, the Peterborough Lakers, before a trade brought him to Burlington in 2023, adding depth to the Blaze’s playoff aspirations.
Knott also secured gold with Team Canada at the 2022 World Junior Lacrosse Championship, making 46 saves on 55 shots in a decisive 16-9 victory over Team Haudenosaunee in the finals.

His stellar performance on the world stage attracted attention from multiple NLL teams, leading to his selection by the Philadelphia Wings in the second round (38th overall) of the 2022 NLL Entry Draft.
After spending the 2022-23 season as a practice squad goalie, Knott has now earned the backup position with the Wings, learning valuable lessons from starter Zach Higgins, one of the NLL’s top goalies.
