In 2021 North Carolina goalie Taylor Moreno joined a pretty elite group of netminders.

Not only did she help her team reach the semi-finals of the national championship tournament (losing to eventual champ Boston College), the senior was named a Tewaaraton Award finalist and also took home the prestigious Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) Goalie of the Year Award joining other Tar Heel legends such as Caylee Waters and Logan Ripley to achieve such honors.

Moreno didn’t exactly have the smoothest road to get to the pinnacle of our position.

In her senior year of high school, she suffered an ACL tear, and again in her first year of college at UNC followed by a medial meniscus tear as a redshirt first-year. Ouch!

Once she returned to the field Moreno made a name for herself at ACC Tournament in 2018, earning Tournament MVP and to the All-ACC Tournament Team after setting a tournament record with 33 saves in three North Carolina wins.

Prior to arriving in Chapel Hill, Moreno was a multi-sport star athlete at Huntington High School in Long Island, New York where she played lacrosse, soccer, basketball, and track before becoming the first female at her school to play for the varsity football team.

Taylor is just as much of a star off the field as she is on the field and is known for her artistic skills.

In the fall of 2021, it was announced that she would be the first collegiate lacrosse athlete to have their own NFT. Moreno also designed warm-up shirts for the Tar Heels and creates custom shoes in her spare time.

Taylor joins the show today to discuss being a multi-sport athlete, persevering through knee injuries, joining the Tar Heels, and much more!
