2025 PLL Lacrosse Goalie Gear Setups

The PLL just concluded its 7th season with Liam Entenmann and the New York Atlas taking home the championship in an exciting game!

Now that you’ve seen some awesome saves let’s take a look at the stick and gear setup of each PLL starter this season.

Here’s the previous season’s posts:

Real quick…this post is sponsored by Lacrosse Monkey. The best online retailer of lacrosse gear. Great prices, great customer service. Highly recommend going to these guys for your new goalie gear!

In my interview with Liam he talked about being very supersticious about a lot of things. 44 juggles each hand pre-game. Same routine every time.

But ironically he is not superstitious with the gear. He’s one of those – I’ll use whatever you give me kinda goalies.

A little ironic because with this his elite level of play I think he’s had a lot to do with why young goalies are all asking about the ghost pocket, aka zero shooting strings.

Logan McNaney – Denver Outlaws

One of my favorite goalies to watch in the college ranks, Logan burst onto the pro scene strong this year.

He uses the Nemi 3 as his weapon of choice, likely bypassing the new Warrior Nemesis QS for its lack of durability I talk about in my review of that head. Or maybe he’s just a creature of habit.

Like Entee, Logan goes ghost pocket with no shooters and an attack length shaft.

He started the season backing up Owen McElroy but then took over and played so well in 2025 he was nominated for both goalie of hte year and rookie of the year.

The former of which he won:

Blaze Riorden – Carolina Chaos

Despite having a solid season, the 5 time Oren Lyons goalie of the year was dethroned this season by the newcomer Logan McNaney.

Blaze is a StringKing sponsored athlete so uses their goalie head.

He also bucks tradition from our 1st two netminders in that he’s got shooting strings (!). Two straight across to be exact.

He also uses a longer shaft in his setup while most goalies in the PLL prefer the attack length.

For his chestie, he goes with the Unequal pad as here you can see that distinguishable neon green popping out:

Brett Dobson – Utah Archers

Dobbers is a Warrior sponsored athlete and in fact during Lacrosse Goalie Summit 16 he teased us with the new line of goalie equipment Warrior is coming out with soon.

I think he’s already using the new gloves because those don’t appear to be latest model Nemesis QS goalie gloves.

For his stick setup, he’s got the Nemesis QS head with his iconic 1 U, 1 straight across, and 1 nylon. Mr. Wanderful strings up Dobbers wands and gets requests for the Dobson replica:

The defending 2 time champs had a down year this season, not even making the playoffs, but goalie Brett Dobson still solid in net.

In fact, he led the league in save percentage at 59.1%:

Also like me – he hates running.

Colin Kirst – Boston Cannons

In the 2025 PLL Championship Series (Sixes format), Kirst was a rock for the Cannons. He set a new tournament record with 72 saves, and in the final vs. the Utah Archers, he made 15 saves with a 56% save percentage.

That success didn’t quite translate to the PLL regular season as their defensive unit faced some difficulties.

For his stick setup, Kirst goes with his patented super low shooting string on an Eclipse 3 head with an attack shaft.

Chayse Ierlan – California Redwoods

One of the best dudes in the league, I love watching Chayse ball out in net.

While his 2025 campaign started a little shaky, he saved his best for last. He made a career high 18 in the Redwoods quarterfinal victory.

He goes with the Eclipse 3 as his wand of choice with the “Jack Canconnon” setup of 2 U’s and a nylon across.

Also goes with the Unequal chestie.

Matt Deluca – Philadelphia Waterdogs

First appearance of the ECD Impact head on this list of goalie gear setups.

The big man out of Delaware helped the Philly Waterdogs reach the semifinals where they fell to eventually champion Atlas.

Dillon Ward – Philadelphia Waterdogs

The Waterdogs other twin tower of a goalie, Canadian Dillon Ward is a Warrior sponsored athlete like Dobson.

He uses all Warrior gear in his setup and also appears to be sporting some of the new Warrior gear that will be released very soon.

He split time with Deluca this season in goal so I wanted to include both goalies in this post.

Emmet Carroll – Maryland Whipsnakes

With the retirement of Kyle Bernlohr, the Whipsnakes went to draft to find their next goalie. With the 20th overall pick they selected Penn grad Emmet Carroll.

For his stick setup, Emmet goes with a ghost pocket on an STX Eclipse 3 head.

The former Lax Goalie Rat sponsored athlete got his first start the 2nd week of the season and ended up finishing the season strong:

Conclusion

There you have it. The goalie gear setups of the starting PLL goalies.

Here’s the summary for the 9 goalies listed:

  • STX Eclipse 3 – 4
  • StringKing Mark 2G – 1
  • ECD Impact – 1
  • Warrior Nemesis 3 – 1
  • Warrior Nemesis QS (?) – 2

The industry standard STX Eclipse 3 leads the way again with all other heads getting some representation.

Like I said in my post I think Dobson and Ward are already using the new Warrior gear line that is coming in the Fall. Unfortunately I don’t have any details on it, except a quote from Dobson: “it’s gonna be awesome!”

Here’s the shooting string setups:

  • Ghost pocket: 4
  • 1 straight across, 1 U, 1 nylon – 1
  • 1 extremely low straight across – 1
  • 1 straight across, 1 U – 1
  • 2 U’s, 1 nylon – 1
  • 2 straight across – 1

I didn’t had the number of diamonds to each goalie but from the looks of it, everyone uses 12 diamond mesh with the exception of Dillon Ward. Seems like he’s got 17D loaded into his wand.

Here’s the shaft:

  • Attack length – 8
  • Goalie length – 1

Only our guy Blaze strays from the herd with the longer goalie shaft.

Here’s the goalie glove setups:

  • Maverik Shift Goalie Gloves: 5
  • STX Surgeon RZR2 Goalie Gloves: 2
  • Warrior Nemesis QS goalie gloves: 2

Maverik Shift is the most popular goalie glove for the PLL goalies. Suprising nobody is using the STX Cell 6’s from what I can see as I thought their thumb protection was great.

I also like the protection of the Maverik and Warrior line. I’m not a fan of the STX Surgeon exo skeleton type thumb protection.

Read more about thumb protection here.

Finally here is the chest protectors of the PLL goalies:

  • Unequal: 3
  • STX Shield 600: 2
  • Warrior Nemesis: 3
  • Maverik Max EKG: 1

Good mix of chest protectors right there. The only one I don’t like is the Maverik Max that Logan uses and the photo I have of him in that pad is from his last year at Maryland so maybe he already switched it up.

There is the full breakdown of the goalie gear used by the top professional goalies in our sport.
