Cornell Goalie Chayse Ierlan on Mastering the Fundamentals – LGR Episode 162
By Coach Damon
July 22, 2022

On today’s Lax Goalie Rat Podcast episode, Coach Damon sits down to chat with Cornell men’s lacrosse goalie Chayse Ierlan.
The upstate New York native is coming off an amazing season with the Big Red which saw Ierlan help lead his team to the National Championship game against Maryland this past May.
During that run, we even got a goalie goal from Chayse in Cornell’s first-round win over Ohio State. The first goal by a Big Red goalie since 1990.
Prior to arriving at Cornell, Ierlan was a multisport athlete at Victor High School. Not only was Chayse a two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American (2017 & 2018) but he also won a New York State Championship in hockey as a goalie in 2018.
Upon arrival at Cornell, Ierlan was able to earn the starting job during his freshman season and led the Ivy League in save percentage (.544) and ranked third overall in goals-against average (11.44). This work helped him earn Honorable Mention All-Ivy and was even named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week four times.
Heading into 2020, Ierlan and the Big Red were set to build on a solid 2019 campaign. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chayse lost not only his sophomore season but his junior season as well after the Ivy League chose to cancel their season in 2021.
In 2022, Ierlan and the Big Red came back with a vengeance, posting an 11-4 record with 173 saves, a .512 save percentage, and a goals against average of 11.41.
This would ultimately help lead the Big Red to the National Championship game where they would ultimately come up short in a closely contested battle with a dominant Maryland Terrapins team.
Chayse is also the younger brother of Redwoods LC face-off specialist and one of the top face-off specialists in the history of NCAA Division I lacrosse, TD Ierlan. In the episode, Chayse talks about how his family has helped him get to the point where he’s at in his career as an elite collegiate lacrosse goalie.
Chayse joins the show today to talk about lacrosse growing up in upstate New York, being a multi-sport athlete, playing in the National Championship game in 2022, and much more!
