On today’s episode of the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast, I’m joined by freshman goalie at Xavier, Marina Piszczor.
Marina recently completed her first season of college lacrosse with the Xavier Musketeers, who are a new program in NCAA lacrosse.
In 2023, she showcased her skills in 14 games, making history as the first player in program history to record a save. Throughout the season, Marina accumulated an impressive total of 138 saves and a .400 save percentage.
One of Marina’s standout performances came in a close 11-10 loss against Detroit Mercy, where she made a single-game record of 15 saves.
Before transitioning to lacrosse, Marina was originally a hockey goalie. However, she discovered her passion for lacrosse during her sophomore year of high school when she heard that her team needed a goalie.
The opportunity to impact the game and her previous experience as a hockey goalie drew her to the position.
The Elmhurst, IL native attended a few camps in her area, where she quickly adapted to the intricacies of being a lacrosse goalie.
In her junior year, Marina started attending college camps and learned that Xavier was starting a lacrosse program.
Eager to be a part of this new venture, she attended Xavier’s first-ever lacrosse camp and instantly fell in love with the environment. From that point on, Marina had her sights set on Xavier as her future school and would eventually become a part of Xavier’s first recruiting class.
As a member of Xavier’s inaugural recruiting class, Marina is thrilled to help set the standard and culture for future classes of Xavier lacrosse. Being part of a program from its infancy allows her to make a lasting impact and shape the team’s future.
Growing up, Marina was a huge fan of Taylor Moreno and admired her confidence and authenticity both on and off the field. She aspires to emulate Moreno’s level of confidence as a goalie and strives to be her true self, both inside and outside the cage.
Join us as we delve into Marina Piszczor’s journey as a freshman goalie at Xavier, discussing her experiences, influences, and the unique challenges of being part of a new program. It’s an episode filled with inspiration and insights that every aspiring goalie can benefit from.
