Thomas “Sully” Sullivan on D2 Goalie and Learning Goalie from Scratch – LGR Episode 178

This Episode Is Brought To You By:

Nobody in Sully’s family had ever played lacrosse. So they learned the sport together.

Spending hours on YouTube studying highlights and tutorials Sully and his Dad gradually learned the game.

They had the fortune of living on Long Island so they checked out Long Island Lizards game as well as high school games in the area.

They broke the goalie position down and took the training to the backyard to teach Sully the ropes when it came to making saves, being in great position, and clearing the ball.

Football had a big influence on Sully (did I mention he’s from Long Island?) and we discuss what elements of his goalie game football taught him.

Growing up Sully looked up to legendary goalies like John Galloway and Scotty Rodgers. He said still uses sweatpants (even in 90 degree weather) because he loved the look that Galloway brought.

Coach Tim O’Meara from Breakout Goaltending – who has presented twice at the Lacrosse Goalie Summits – gave Sully his first official lesson.

Sully is a Lax Goalie Rat sponsored athlete for the 2023 season meaning he’s put together a college goalie training pack full of drills, instruction, tips, and guidance for the youth goalies out there.

Enjoy this conversation with the 5th year senior Thomas Sullivan!
