Couple episodes ago we spoke with the 2021 Virginia goalie Alex Rode and for this one we’re going back to the 1994 goalie James Ireland.
Here’s something I’ve learned in my podcasting career. When you schedule a podcast with a Long Islander (he’s from Garden City) you better block out half of the day. And prepare for some awesome stories.
Even thought we kept it to an hour James was full of some amazing stories about his playing days. The Doc Dougherty dice story at the end is pure gold.
That Virginia team was loaded with All-American attackman Doug Knight and Tim Whiteley, amongst others and we chat about what it was like going up against those guys day in and day out in practice.
He’s also full of lacrosse goalie tips and even though he hung up his cleats long ago he still coaches the position and has a ton of tips and advice for young goalies trying to master their craft.
