Getting in the Zone with MCLA Florida Goalie Matt Corazon – LGR Episode 125

Listen on Apple Podcast

University of Florida senior goalie Matt Corazón – who dons the nickname the Zone from his teammates – joins the podcast to discuss his lacrosse career and life in the MCLA.

As the Gators starting goalie, team captain, and club president the Zone is getting pumped to enter his senior season after Covid drastically reduced the 2021 season for MCLA teams.

MCLA teams typically have weird traditions and Matt shares Florida’s “Shovel Tradition”.

Unlike the NCAA where the university handles of a lot of the admin and management, MCLA teams have team officers. We discuss Matt’s role as club president of his team.

In high school Corazon struggled with the battle with the “is this game really for me” thoughts and at one point gave some serious thought to giving up the game of lacrosse. Listen to how he recaptured his mojo and got his heart back in the game.

Matt talks through some of the goalies he looked up and learned from including Drew Adams, Shane Doss, Jack Kelly, and John Connors. This is the save edit he talks about and it also happens to be one of my favorite I’ve ever done:

In addition to playing Matt also coaches goalies in the South Florida area and we discuss his approach to training youth lacrosse goalies.

The Zone shares his story of why he ended up in Gainesville for college.
