The People’s Goalie, Brown’s Connor Theriault – LGR Episode 169

This Episode Is Brought To You By:

On today’s Lax Goalie Rat Podcast episode, I sit down to chat with Brown starting goalie and Ivy League goalie of the year, Connor Theriault.

Connor is coming off a successful sophomore season with Brown.

After his 2021 season was canceled after the Ivy League suspended play due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Theriault and the Bears came out of the gates in 2022 with a purpose.

The native of Mount Hermon, MA played in all 16 games as a sophomore goalie with 15 starts and finished the season with a 9-6 record along with a .537 save percentage and 11.54 goals against average. His save percentage ranked 21st in the NCAA and fourth among underclassmen.

His best performance came against Cornell during the regular season where he recorded a career-high 24 saves in Brown’s 13-8 road win against the Big Red to pick up Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

This stellar season landed Theriault on a number of lists. He was named USILA Honorable Mention All-American, USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American, First Team All-Ivy, and the Ivy League Goalie of the Year.

His unreal performances in 2022 helped him garner the nickname ‘The People’s Goalie’. The nickname came from Drake Porter and Brown Alumni Larken Kemp’s Twitter interaction earlier in the season.

Prior to arriving at Brown, Theriault played his high school ball at Northfield Mount Hermon where he was a two-year captain and received the Team MVP honors.

Theriault also spent time with the Massachusetts powerhouse club program the Fighting Clams which has developed other great lacrosse goalies such as Danny Hincks and Josh Kirson.

Connor credits Danny and Josh for helping him understand what playing at the next level looked like and what it would take to get there.

After a stellar performance at the Maverik Showcase game, Theriault established himself as one of the top recruits in the nation heading into his recruiting year. He ranked #90 in the country (Inside Lacrosse), #5 in the country for goalies (IL), and #32 in New England.

Connor had his sights set on Brown from the start, however. Especially after the team’s magic run in 2016 with goalie Jack Kelly.

Connor joins the show today to talk about his recruiting story, playing with pressure, where he got his nickname ‘The People’s Goalie’, and much more!
