Connor Foley’s Baggy Style and Big Presence in Net – Podcast 267

This episode is sponsored by Thigh Pro

Brown University goalie Connor Foley has been turning heads this season with a .560 save percentage, Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors, and an Inside Lacrosse HM All-American. But what sets Foley apart isn’t just stats—it’s his energy, style, and mindset.

He first jumped in goal simply to avoid getting subbed out, and the rest is history. Foley describes his style as “butterfly hockey goalie”, with lots of movement, body saves, and flopping. Known for a wide base, he’s now working on narrowing his stance to improve on high shots, using practice and warmups to test small tweaks before games.

Foley’s left-handedness gives him a natural edge, and though he was cut from his club in his first year, that only fueled him. Since then, he has worked and trained with various coaches that have helped guide his growth. In this episode, Foley shares tips for growth of playing style, like how to get rid of “the dip” and how to start baiting shooters.

He brings a loud, contagious energy to the field—often rocking baggy sweatpants—and says that energy helps boost his teammates. The Brown goalie room is tight, supportive, and central to his experience.

Mentally, Foley focuses on positive and neutral self-talk, inspired by The Secret. His advice? “Negative talk doesn’t help at all.” Confidence, small improvements, and a strong support system fuel his game—and so does having fun with it.

Great talk with an empowering young man, go Bruno!
