I remember during Coach Quirk’s live field demo session; he announced that Kaden would be signing his National Letter of Intent to join the Red Storm which was a cool experience to have at one of our early Goalie Summits.
Kaden is now heading into his sophomore season at St. John’s and coming off an impressive freshman year where he was able to earn the #1 job, starting all 14 games between the pipes for the Red Storm in his first season.
Despite the team not having the best record, Quirk still stood out amongst his freshman peers.
He recorded the most stops of any freshman goaltending at St. John’s since the program’s reinstatement in 2005 and ranked 3rd among NCAA D1 Freshman with 169 saves on the season.
This stellar performance would earn him BIG EAST Freshman of the week honors last season.
Kaden grew up in a lacrosse household. With his Dad coaching him most of Kaden’s life and owning a prominent goalie school on the east coast in Peak Goalie you’d be surprised when you find out that he didn’t actually start playing the position until the 6th grade.
Quirk would eventually followed in his Dad’s footsteps and hopped in the cage. Because of Coach Sean Quirk’s experience in coaching, Kaden found he was able to catch on to the position a lot quicker than most young goalies would.
Kaden played his high school ball at St. John’s Prep and St. Mary’s high school and was also a member of the well-known 3D club lacrosse program that has developed a number of great college lacrosse players over the year.
He had a pretty successful high school career being named a 2021 Boston Globe All-American, 2021 Boston Herald All-American, Four-time All-Conference team member, and a 2021 MIAA State Champion.
Kaden ended up choosing St John’s after hitting it off with the coaching staff. He liked that he was able to go into a spot where he could trust the people running the program and liked being close to New York City.
He also liked that the Red Storm offered him the best possible opportunity to come in and compete for the starting role on day 1 which he would eventually end up achieving.
Now heading into his sophomore season at St. John’s Kaden is looking to build on a strong freshman season and keep improving as a goalie.
I hope you enjoy this podcast with Kaden where we discuss topics like picking the right club lacrosse team, being a shorter goalie, and leadership lessons learned from his dad Sean Quirk.
Lacrosse is my passion! The game has given me so much and this blog is my way of giving back to the lax community. Specifically the most bad a$$ part of that community - the goalies! After learning to play goalie from scratch, I wanted to create a site where I could share what I learned with others so they too can become champions in the crease and in life. Learn more about Coach Damon.
