This week on the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast, I am joined by a defensive brick wall, the 6 foot 3 beast for Villanova Anthony Wilson.
Growing up in a lacrosse hotbed like Maryland, Wilson had some fierce competition playing some of the best players in the nation for the powerhouse Maryland Crabs and beast of a team at McDonogh High School.
Anthony had an amazing season this past year with the Wildcats, starting every game, turning into one of the best goalies in the conference, having 161 season saves, and being named BIG EAST All-Tournament Team for his back-to-back 12 save outings against Denver and Georgetown and was also named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week!
We dive into how Anthony’s background in soccer and golf sharpened his reflexes and focus, and why he believes that “next-shot mentality” is essential for any successful goalie. Anthony also discusses his approach to handling pressure, his high-arc positioning technique, and how he uses communication on the field to stay focused.
