In today’s episode of the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast coach Damon sits down to chat with USC starting goalie Kait Devir.
The junior netminder out of Ridgewood, NJ has a really cool story and awesome background to share.
Kait is not just a promising young goalie for the women of Troy, she’s also an accomplished photographer and content creator who has a popular YouTube channel “Life with KD” where she documents her journey as a student-athlete.
Initially committing to Boston College out of high school, Devir was a three-time Under Armour New Jersey High School All-America selection (2017-19) and was named to the North Jersey Interscholastic League second team as a senior before stepping on campus at Chestnut Hill.
Devir collected over 100 career saves at Ridgewood High School and helped her team win the 2019 Bergen County and NJ Group 4 Sectional championships. She also played for STEPS Elite lacrosse club where she contributes a lot of her development as a goalie towards.
Unfortunately, Kait’s freshman season at Boston College was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a sophomore though, Devir played in two games during the Eagles’ run to the 2021 NCAA championship. A moment that she captured on her YouTube channel.
Kait spent the summer of 2021 working for Athletes Unlimited as a staff photographer. She did an amazing job capturing the on-field and off-field action that has helped elevate the profile of the league and the athletes of AU.
After her summer with Athlete’s Unlimited and working for the Boston College football team as a student intern photographer in the fall, Kait realized what she really wanted to do career-wise and was in a spot where she wasn’t fully fulfilling what she wanted to do at BC. So she entered the transfer portal as a mid-year transfer where Los Angeles and USC head Coach Lindsay Munday came calling her name.
USC was always Kait’s dream school to attend because of their renowned film school and it being the place to be for networking and developing as an aspiring content creator.
Upon arriving at USC Kait got right to work on the field, winning the starting job before capturing consecutive Pac-12 defensive player of the week honors to start the season, making 9 saves against San Diego State in an 18-7 victory in week 1, and making 14 saves in two wins over Jacksonville and Mercer in week 2.
Devir finished her first season at USC with a 12-5 record, 10.98 GAA, and a .372 save % while the Trojans also made the tournament falling to Virginia in the first round.
Kait joins the show today to talk about her journey as a goalie and content creator, winning a national championship at BC, her relationship with USC assistant coach and former Syracuse goalie Asa Goldstock, and much more!
I know you’re going to really love this episode. So please enjoy my interview with Kait Devir!
Lacrosse is my passion! The game has given me so much and this blog is my way of giving back to the lax community. Specifically the most bad a$$ part of that community - the goalies! After learning to play goalie from scratch, I wanted to create a site where I could share what I learned with others so they too can become champions in the crease and in life. Learn more about Coach Damon.
