High School Junior Robert Cabauatan on Thriving Under Pressure

On today’s Lax Goalie Rat Podcast episode, I sit down to chat with High School lacrosse goalie Robert Cabauatan.
I first met Robert when he came to my clinic this past summer in Petaluma, CA and he dominated out there.
The NorCal native is entering his junior year and is currently the starting goalie at Clayton Valley Charter School in Concord, CA.
Robert got his start in the net after filling in for the team’s goalie who couldn’t make it and fell in love with the position.
The feeling of having all eyes on him as the goalie is what drew him to the position but once he got in the cage he quickly realized that he thrives under the pressure that being the last line of defense creates.
Robert learned the position from working with his youth club coach, Matt Cominsky who played goalie in college as well as watching our Lax Goalie Rat Save Edits to help him understand how to make different saves and develop his game.
At the Summer Clinic I ran this summer, Robert built a strong connection with Cal goalie Zach Blake who was helping me with all of the goalies who attend. Zach helped teach Robert how to control his steps and also develop his clearing game, as part of the position he’s hoping to improve at this year.
Robert is also a huge fan of former Virginia goalie Alex Rode. He loves Alex’s style of play, stance, and athleticism in net.
Robert is an awesome young man who possesses a lot of natural talents that lend him well to being a great goalie.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing him in the college game in no time!
