Georgetown College Head Coach Brandon Davis on Starting Programs, Using Stats, and Coaching Female Goalies – LGR Podcast #84

Listen on Apple Podcast

Coach Brandon Davis grew up in a small town in northern Connecticut and started playing lacrosse in the 4th grade.

When he arrived to high school, the school actually didn’t have a team. No problem, Brandon and 2 other players created the program. He started out as a middie and LSM.

As the team’s emergency backup goalie (EBUG) Brandon only saw time in the crease during some practices and penalities on the starter (which happened more you would think).

His recruiting experience (something we touch in the show) took him to University of Louisville were he started out of LSM and close D but when the team needed a goalie, he stepped up.

After college Brandon kept coaching winning state championships and mentoring 2 different All-American goalies.

In 2013 he took a job at Georgetown College as the head coach, starting up yet another lacrosse program from scratch.

In just a short time, they’re been really successful, having been ranked in the top 10 in the country since we broke into the rankings in 2015.

They’ve played in two final fours, two elite eights, and the National Championship in 2016.  While there, he’s had two All-American goalies play for him (Doreen Brabble, 2015), (Rachel Kidwell, 2016/2017).

In this chat we touch on a number of interesting subjects:

  • How to start a new lacrosse program (he’s started three and a half 😀 )
  • How he learned the position of goalie
  • Things male coaches should understand if they’re coaching female goalies
  • How to learn the game of women’s lacrosse
  • How he uses stats to track goalie progress

And more! Enjoy this chat with Coach Brandon Davis!
