Loyola Goalie Sam Shafer On His Goalie Journey and Game Winning Save – LGR Episode #104

There are only a handful of goalies who have gone viral due to one of their saves.

Loyola goalie Sam Shafer is one of them.

With just seconds left in the 1st round of the 2021 NCAA championship tournament the Denver got into a 1×1 position with Shafer.

But Shafer stood tall and made the save advancing Loyola to the Elite 8. The Greyhounds gave Duke a run for their money but eventually lost in OT.

As Sam Shafer prepares to play in his final season, he joins the Lax Goalie Rat podcast to discuss his lacrosse goalie journey to arrive at that game saving moment. Including getting benched earlier in the 2021 season.

Loyola is coached by Charley Toomey, a great goalie himself, so Shafer shares what it’s like to play for Coach Toomey.

Great chat with this young goalie.
