Shea was born in the windy city of Chicago but eventually moved to Darien, Connecticut. Her mother played college lacrosse at Hobart, so it’s safe to say that Shea was destined to be involved in the sport. However, it wasn’t until sixth-grade tryouts that Shea was introduced to the goalie position. A friend gave her some gear, and even though she didn’t know much about the position, she ended up making her club team. Many people were shocked by her selection, but little did they know that Shea would soon become a standout in the net.
Shea’s success didn’t come overnight, though. She has worked tirelessly with her goalie coach Chris Madalon to refine her skills and develop her unique style of play, including some impressive footwork and great clearing skills that she showcased right out of the gates at BC.
Shea’s hard work and dedication have paid off, as prior to her arrival at BC she was named the No. 1 goalie and sixth-ranked incoming freshman of the class of 2022 according to IL Women. Shea also earned three-time all-state and all-league honors during her high school career with Darien, proving that she is one of the most impressive young goalies to watch in the game today.
When it came time to choose a college, Shea knew that she wanted to continue playing at the highest level. She ultimately chose Boston College because of the love she felt from the coaches and the team atmosphere in the room.
Now a freshman goalie for the Eagles, she is already making waves in the NCAA.
Dolce has already taken on the starting role for the BC Eagles over All-American goalie Rachel Hall in just her first season on campus and through 11 games holds a 5-2 record with a 7.21 GAA and a .489 save percentage.
It’s clear that Shea Dolce is a rising star in the world of lacrosse. Her journey from a sixth-grade tryout to one of the top goalies in the country is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and natural talent.
I hope you enjoy this episode with Shea where we discuss topics like handling nerves during a big game, adjusting to the college game, and drills to improve your clearing.

After learning to play goalie from scratch, I wanted to create a site where I could share what I learned with others so they too can become champions in the crease and in life. Learn more about Coach Damon.
