Angie Benson is one of the top female goalies in our sport. The current starter at Virginia Tech joins the Lax Goalie Rat podcast this week to discuss her journey to where she’s at.
She started her NCAA career at Towson and we discuss that experience. She also spent a little time away from collegiate athletics coaching and running her own business.
After some time away, she was ready to make a comeback. Coaching and leading individual lessons had given her a new outlook on the sport she’d grown up playing. We discuss the horribly bureaucratic process of getting reinstated in the NCAA.
But now she’s comfortable leading the Hokies although we discuss those 1st game jitters after all that time off.
In addition you’ll notice Angie doesn’t look like most lacrosse players and we discuss what it means to be a black lacrosse player and she’s helping.
We discuss her unique coaching style and how she motivates the young athletes she works with.
