Coming into the 2020 season, Maryland goalie Emily Sterling had some pretty big shoes to fill.
Arguably the best goalie ever in Megan Taylor had just graduated and it was Emily’s turn to take the reins.
But as Sterling will tell you the Maryland women’s lax coaches did a wonderful job in making sure to emphasize you are two completely different goalies. We don’t need you to be Meg, we need you to be Em.
Emily joins the podcast to discuss her upbringing in Bel Air, MD with the sport of lacrosse and how she ended up defending the cage for the University of Maryland.
Before even playing for Maryland, Emily suffered a pretty bad knee injury and we discuss how she overcame that injury both mentally and physically. How do you bond with teammates when you’re on the sideline and not playing lacrosse?
In the 2021, her sophomore year, Sterling helped lead the Terrapins to the Big 10 championship game. She is pumped to join Maryland for her junior year and get back out there.
