2021 PLL Goalie Stick and Gear Setups

Premier Lacrosse League playoffs start this weekend and I just realized I never did a 2021 stick setup post for the goalies this year.

I have been cranking out the save edits. Anyone watching those?

There has been some phenomenal goalie play this year and some exciting stories specifically with these keeps too.

Final season for the GOAT John Galloway and a few amazing shut down games. Including this one and this 21 save performance when the Chrome knocked off both the Whips and the Archers.

Dillon Ward started out super slow with his new Waterdog team but is now playing some elite level goal and has earned his team the #1 seed.

Jack Concannon got injured midseason and in stepped JD Colarusso who has been playing amazing and helped the Atlas secure the #2 seed.

Blaze is Blaze and there’s a reason he’s 2x Goalie of the Year.

Timmy is having another solid year including MVP of the All-Star game after this amazing bounce pass and BTB goalie goal. Jack Kelly fought back from 3 surgeries and got to the field. So stoked for him.

After moving over from the MLL, Cannons goalie Nick Marrocco is having an All-Star season. Always surprising to see 1st year goalies in the league have such success right away. But Marrocco is a stud in goal.

Finally Adam Ghitelman is at the top of his game right now. He’s my vote for Goalie of the Year, although its close.

Here are the 2021 stick setups for goalies in the Premier Lacrosse League:

PLL Goalie Stick Setups

Tim Troutner – Redwoods

Looks like Troutner retired the black STX Eclipse 2 he was using last year. Haven’t seen this one this year.

Jack Kelly – Redwoods

Great to see Jack back out there after a 3 year / 3 surgery battle to recover from a torn ACL.

There was a point in Jack’s recovery when he was even questioning whether he’d walk again without pain, let alone play lacrosse.

Jack Concannon – Atlas

Bummer that Concannon got bit by the injury bug this year. He’s an exciting goalie to watch play with his intense hand explosion to the ball.

From his latest Instagram post I’m assuming he’s going to be back in action soon which begs the question: ride the hot hand in Colarusso or go back to Concannon?

In case you don’t know, my favorite stick stringer in the game Mr. Wanderful twists up Concannon’s wands.

JD Colarusso – Atlas

Filling in for the injured Concannon, JD out of Albany has been solid. He’s saving the ball at 49% which isn’t elite but he’s doing enough to get the Atlas the wins.

John Galloway – Chrome

Galloway announced midseason that this would be the last year for the GOAT.

Congrats on an amazing career. Can’t even tell the number of current goalies who listed John Galloway as their inspiration when I spoke with them for the podcast.

My podcast with John Galloway.

Elite stick stringer Lars Kiel – the Sidewall Jedi – strings up Galloway’s wands along with a lot of other PLL players. He showed us one during the Lacrosse Goalie Summit.

Sean Sconone – Chrome

Sconone got one start this season when the PLL went to Long Island which must have been pretty special for the LI native. I imagine Sean takes the starting reins next season after Galloway’s retirement.

Kyle Bernlohr – Whipsnakes

An interesting story line this season is how much the normally dominate Kyle Bernlohr is struggling.

He’s consistently one of the best in the league but has had some very non-Bernlohr like games. Although he did make the save of the season if you ask me. Watch here.

He also did win the All-Star goalie skills competition.

Can Bernlohr regain his magic touch in time for the Whipsnakes to run through the championship tournament for a 3rd straight year?

Kyle is an STX sponsored athlete so no surprise his gear his a full STX setup.

Brian Phipps – Whipsnakes

The other Terp goalie on the Whipsnakes roster has seen some action stepping in for Bernlohr during his off days.

Not a lot of great pics of Phipps out there on the internet.

Adam Ghitelman – Archers

Ghitelman is playing absolutely lights out this year. He’s leading the league in save percentage at 62%!

But not only that, he’s a dynamic goalie who isn’t afraid to leave the crease to win a GB or lead the clear.

Ghits is going “murdered out” with the stick setup this year. I love it. That’s of course when you go all black with the head, mesh, shooters, and shaft.

Drew Adam – Archers

While last season Adams and Ghitelman split time pretty equally, with the dominate play of Ghits, Drew has seen less of the field this year.

Dillon Ward – Waterdogs

Nick Marrocco – Cannons

After coming over from the MLL, Cannons’ goalie Nick Marrocco is having a great primer season in the PLL. He was one of the goalies selected for the All-Star game.

Nick let me know he’s also apart of #teamunfairadvantage with his wand being strung up by the SidewallJedi.

Jacob Stover – Cannons

Stover has seen some action during a few games to spell Marrocco and give the Cannons a new look in goal.

Conclusion

There we go. The stick setups of the starting goalies in the PLL for the 2021 season.

Last season was a clean sweep for the STX Eclipse 2. This year we’re starting to see some variety with the Nemesis 2, Nemesis 3, and the Mark 2G getting some action.

Anyone planning on watching the playoffs? Who’s your pick to win it all?

Until next time! Coach Damon
